FDSN Network Information

FDSN code Z1 (2022-2024) Network name Copper Basin Exploration Science Broadband Seismometer Profile (CuBES)
Start year 2022 Operated by
  • University of Leicester (SEIS UK), United Kingdom
End year 2024 Deployment region -
Description

A large component of the multi-institution Copper Basin Exploration Science (CuBES) project will be to collect passive seismic data across the Copper Belt in Zambia to determine for the first time the large scale crustal structure of the region to enable the copper deposits to be interpreted in a geodynamic context.

The CuBES Broadband Profile consists of 30 Guralp (20 ESPCD, 10 6T) seismometers recording both 1Hz and 100Hz passive data for up to 18 months. It is anticipated that a small selection of instruments may be moved in the future to fill in gaps along the profile.
