FDSN Network Information

FDSN code YJ (2026-2027) Network name MDuFAULT
Start year 2026 Operated by
End year 2027 Deployment region -
Description

MDuFAULT focuses on the Dubrovnik fault system, located in the southeastern Adriatic Sea,
specifically on the fault segment extending from northwest of Ston to southeast of Dubrovnik. Despite
its importance, the current structure, deformation processes, and seismic activity along this fault zone
remain poorly understood due to limitations in existing monitoring infrastructure. Addressing this gap
requires a comprehensive, high-resolution, multi-scale approach to seismic monitoring, fault
characterization, and tectonic modeling. Furthermore, we will explore its interaction within the context of
regional tectonics by conducting a larger-scale seismic survey. We propose to achieve this by installing
a new temporary seismic network, consisting of 20– 25 broadband seismic stations, at least 20
lower-sensitivity seismic instruments, and distributed acoustic sensing measurements.
