FDSN Network Information

FDSN code XY (2011-2012) Network name Experiment to Determine Hypocenters and Focal Mechanisms of Earthquakes Occurring in Association with Imaged Faults Near Summeville, South Carolina (Summerville Experiment)
Start year 2011 Operated by
  • Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), United States of America
End year 2012 Deployment region
Description

The experiment is a deployment of 12 3-component short-period systems in the immediate epicentral area of the 1886 Charleston, South Carolina earthquake. The purpose is to obtain hypocenter locations and focal mechanisms of high accuracy, to test for spatial correlation with Cenozoic faulting imaged on seismic reflection profile data.
