FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 6E (2026-2027) Network name monitoring the PorTuguese AQUifers with Ambient SEISmic noise interferometry (AQUASEIS)
Start year 2026 Operated by
End year 2027 Deployment region -
Description

Temporary seismic network of approximately 24 short-period and broadband stations deployed across the Querença-Silves aquifer (Algarve, southern Portugal). The network fills a coverage gap in this region, where no permanent stations currently operate, and is designed to monitor subsurface structural changes and record local microseismicity. Ambient seismic noise interferometry (autocorrelation and cross-correlation of coda waves) will track relative seismic velocity changes associated with aquifer recharge/discharge cycles, cross-validated against piezometric, GPS, and geoelectrical survey data from the same site.
