Description

During the spring and summer of 2022, we maintained two passive seismometers installed shallowly beneath the ice surface of the Wolverine Glacier, on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. These two sensors were Geobit C100 seismometers connected to SRi32L digitizers. We installed the upper station, WOLC, at 1290 m elevation, just above the average equilibrium line altitude, at a depth of 4.3 m below the snow surface. The lower station, WOLN, lay within the glacier ablation area, at 1000 m elevation, and was drilled 40 cm into the ice, at 4.0 m depth below the snow surface. We recovered the instruments in mid-September, though the lower site melted out in mid-July. The purpose of the seismic installation was to track seasonal changes in subglacial hydrology and the dynamics of the glacier bed.
