Description

Eleven broadband Guralp seismographs were installed along the Western Kenai Peninsula for two years. The primary aim of this project was to collect data for in seismic imaging of the Lower Cook Inlet portion of the Alaska-Aleutian subduction zone, which undergoes intermittent slow slip, to investigate the physical properties and processes responsible for along-strike variations in plate coupling and seismicity. Instruments were installed in an inhabited area of a sedimentary basin, so evaluating the impact of environmental and anthropogenic noise on imaging is a secondary goal. This project was sponsored by the NSF, in collaboration with the University of Washington.
