| Description |
An array of 12 Aquarius broadband ocean-bottom seismometers (OBS) was deployed as the first long-term test of the instrument pool operated by the Canadian National Facility for Seismological Investigations (NFSI). The study targets the Laurentian Fan Seismic Zone offshore Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, a seismically active zone of oceanic lithosphere downslope from the 1929 Grand Banks earthquake (Ms 7.2) epicenter, providing an opportunity to investigate seismic activity and the marine soundscape in this poorly-monitored deep-water locale. Due to a variety of issues, only 8 OBS were recovered with approximately 3 months of usable data (November 2021 to January 2022). |
