Description

In 2020, we located a previously unknown surface exposure of the Patton Bay Fault on southwestern Montague Island, Alaska, a large thrust splay fault in the Alaska subduction zone. In June, 2022, we plan a one week field project to characterize this fault, perform a high resolution P-wave tomography experiment on the outcrop exposure, and sample it for laboratory elastic properties studies. The exposure area is several hundred meters long by ~100 m wide on the shoreline of the island. Two Geodes and associated cables, geophones, and accessories would suffice to carry out the experiment.
