FDSN Network Information

FDSN code YY (2012-2012) Operated by UC Santa Cruz
Network name Mendenhall Glacier Outburst Flood Seismicity and Next-Generation Instrument Testing (Mendenhall Glacier Outburst) Deployment region United States
Start date Jan. 1, 2012 End date Dec. 31, 2012
Short description

In July 2011 a glacial lake outburst flood occurred when a marginal lake adjacent to Mendenhall Glacier drained suddenly and partially flooded the shores of Mendenhall Lake, threatening area homes. The project has to complementary goals: 1. detection of seismicity releated to a GLOF for design of a future early warning system. 2. evaluation of new instrumentation-Trillium Compact All Terrain gimbaled seismometer
