The Department of Energy, Geothermal Technology Office through Phase 2 Play Fairway Analysis, funded Washington Division of Geology and Earth Resources and AltaRock Energy to perform gravity, MT, and passive seismic surveys at three sites in Washington to explore for geothermal energy. A passive seismic array be deployed north of Mt St Helens, along the St Helens shear zone. The array will be 14x10 km with a station spacing of 1.5 km and about 20 broadband seismometers. The purpose of the array is to image geothermal fluids and conduits using tomography and microseismicity. The results may lead to drilling of deep geothermal exploration wells to validate the results.
