FDSN Network Information

FDSN code YG (2013-2014) Operated by Victoria University of Wellington
Network name Deployment for the Southern Cook Strait Earthquake Sequence (scook) Deployment region New Zealand
Start date Jan. 1, 2013 End date Dec. 31, 2014
Short description

This line of seismometers will record aftershocks of the July 2013 Southern Cook Strait M=6.5 earthquake to supplement permanent and portable short period (and two broadband) seismometers in the region. It will provide a dense line that crosses the 2009-2011 SAHKE line that recorded explosions and airgun shots to get a detailed image of the subducting plate interface. This line will allow us to determine the lateral continuity of the imaged structures and will also contribute to source and location studies of the aftershocks. Finally, relationships between the sequence and a slow slip event off the west coast in the Wellington region will be examined.
