FDSN Network Information

FDSN code YG (2013-2014) Network name Deployment for the Southern Cook Strait Earthquake Sequence (scook)
Start year 2013 Operated by
  • Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand
End year 2014 Deployment region
Description

This line of seismometers will record aftershocks of the July 2013 Southern Cook Strait M=6.5 earthquake to supplement permanent and portable short period (and two broadband) seismometers in the region. It will provide a dense line that crosses the 2009-2011 SAHKE line that recorded explosions and airgun shots to get a detailed image of the subducting plate interface. This line will allow us to determine the lateral continuity of the imaged structures and will also contribute to source and location studies of the aftershocks. Finally, relationships between the sequence and a slow slip event off the west coast in the Wellington region will be examined.
