FDSN Network Information

FDSN code XS (2002-2002) Network name Embayment Seismic Excitation Experiment (ESEE)
Start year 2002 Operated by
  • University of Memphis, CERI, United States of America
End year 2002 Deployment region
Description

2600lb and 5000lb explosions were detonated within the New Madrid Seismic Zone at 2 locations to excite fundamental and higher mode surface waves within the sediments of the Mississippi embayment. The existing seismic network was augmented by the 8 PASSCAL instruments. A second piggy-back experiment was performed in November 25-27 to record ambient noise with a phased array to evaluate the H/V ratio of the sediments at the northern explosion location.
