FDSN Network Information

FDSN code XF (1995-1996) Operated by IRIS/PASSCAL
Network name Microearthquake Monitoring of Ice Stream C, West Antarctica (Antarctic) Deployment region
Start date Jan. 1, 1995 End date Dec. 31, 1996
Short description

Record microearthquakes from the base of the ice streams of West Antarctica and correlate the rates of seismicity to the flow speed of the overlaying ice. The theory of water diversion is to be tested, whereby the basal hydrologic system has been disrupted resulting in an increase in seismicity and a decrease in ice flow speeds.
