FDSN Network Information

FDSN code XB (1997-1999) Operated by IRIS/PASSCAL
Network name A Broadband study of the tectonics and structure of the Antarctic Peninsula and Scotia Sea Regions (S. Shetland) Deployment region
Start date Jan. 1, 1997 End date Dec. 31, 1999
Short description

5 stations were installed in Chilean Patagonia and 5 stations in the Antarctic Peninsula region. 3 of the Antarctic stations are located at Chilean bases. The goals of the experiment are to determine whether current subduction is occurring at the S. Shetland trench; study the upper mantle structure of the Bransfield Strait backarc region; determine whether anisotropy indicates mantle flow around South America
