Description

The Eskdalemuir distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) experiment was part of the IRIS Global DAS month, recording throughout February 2023. The installation uses optical telecommunication fibers which connect together each element of the Eskdalemuir seismic array (part of the International Monitoring System). A Febus A1-R DAS interrogator was connected to these fibers, making a loop of ~35 km from the seismic station, via a central interconnect hut, to the ends of each of the arms of the array, and then back again. As is typical for DAS, the data record axial (along-fiber) strain rate at regular intervals along the cables.

FDSN Web Services provide a common data access API for seismic data.

Availability based on irisws-fedcatalog service.
Full fedcatalog information for this network

Additional Notes Data are available for one hour after each earthquake of magnitude 5 or above according to the USGS NEIC PDE catalog, and continuously on 2023-02-14 (from 00:00 to 23:59:59.95 UTC on that day). The data set is accessible via Globus to reach the PubDAS endpoint under DAS-Month-02.2023/Leeds_Univ-Eskdalemuir/. A step-by-step guide for logging in and transferring files is available through this link: https://docs.globus.org/how-to/get-started/. To access the PubDAS Globus endpoint, use this link: https://tinyurl.com/PubDAS. Please note that a Globus account is required to access the PubDAS endpoint. A comprehensive set of metadata accompanies the dataset at the Globus endpoint, describing the cable layout more fully.
