FDSN Network Information

FDSN code LZ Network name Zambia Seismic Network (ZSN)
Start year 1980 Operated by
  • Geological Survey Department of Zambia, Zambia
End year 2599 Deployment region Zambia
Description

The Zambia Seismic Network currently includes nine (9) digital broadband seismographic stations which are ISC station coded as: KMZ, KTWE, ITZ, MONG,PTZ,ISZ,MZZ,KSMZ & LSZ. The network itself has been operational from the early 80s with respective stations having operational and none operational epochs.

The aim of the network is to monitor seismic activities in Zambia and surrounding ares in order to advance the Government of the Republic of Zambia on the incidence of earthquake activity.

The sensor types include the STS1/2 for LSZ with Q330 digitizers and is IMS auxiliary interfaced with GCI. The rest of the stations are either Guralp or Tellurium Nanometrics with all digitized by RefTek 130s. Some Guralps compact types with inbuilt DM24 digitizers which run on SCREAM.
