FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 9B (2012-2013) Network name Tomographic Imaging of Silali and Paka Volcanoes (Silali)
Start year 2012 Operated by
  • University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), United States of America
End year 2013 Deployment region

This is an experiment to tomographically image the magma chambers beneath Silali and Paka volcanoes. These are recently active volcanoes within the northern Rift Valley of Kenya. Successful imaging of the magma champers would enhance geothermal exploration capabilities and potentially increase electrical generating capacity in Kenya
