Acting Chairman for this working group was Rhett Butler of IRIS since Jim Lyons of Canada was not able to attend the meeting. Those attending the meeting included, Butler and Ahern (IRIS), Dost (ORFEUS), Tsuboi(Pacific-21), Roult and Dayre (GEOSCOPE), Hanka (GEOFON), and Firbas and Hasslinger (CTBTO).
Butler indicated that one of the primary items to be discussed at this meeting would be the issue as to whether or not the FDSN should approach the IMS asking for data from the IMS network. Florian Haslinger of the CTBTO indicated that it would also be useful to get the various state's parties to support data release to the scientific community. Dost indicated that they had sent a letter to the CTBTO asking for data and the CTBTO replied. Dost will distribute copies of these letters by email.
WGIV believes that Chairman Fukao should write a letter to the CTBTO asking for release of the IMS data. N should ask for all data in as timely a manner as technically and politically possible. WGIV recommends that we ask for all seismic, infrasound and hydroacoustic data only.
Haslinger gave a report of the IMS. There are presently 35 primary stations installed and 15 of them are transmitting data. ISTI got the contract to build the station to GCI interface system. Hasslinger discussed several aspects of the station interfaces. He indicated that the IDC recently received release 3 of software and also the release of CD1.1 transmission software.
The WG felt that Jim Lyons should arrange to have certain key documents of the IMS posted on the FDSN WWW site.
Butler then presented a brief summary of the current IRIS interaction with respect to using the GCI. CTBT will contract with Honeywell to interface the GCI with stations of the IRIS/USGS network. CTBT will contract with the state of Mississippi who will contract with UCSD to hook up interface boxes via a new SAIC SAN2012 Data Acquisition System for the IRIS/IDA network.
